Profile
John Halpin joined the US Navy at 17 years old. He served in the Pacific theatre and was stationed on a mine sweeper. His MOS (Military Occupational Skill) was pipe-fitter/boilerman. After the war he returned home to work at US Plumbing on the west side of Cincinnati, where he met and married Grace Cucinotta in 1946.
He told Grace he would like to move to Australia, where he took his rest and relaxation period during service, but she did not want to leave Cincinnati. Like many of the servicemen of the time, he stayed in the reserves. He was called to duty when the United States entered the Korean conflict and was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana. When he left the service after his tour of duty, he returned to Cincinnati and started to work for the JP Dorney Plumbing Company in Hyde Park.
