Profile
Meeker Plumbing and Heating, now in its fourth generation of Meekers, has a long history. Originally established as Slack Plumbing in 1858, it was renamed in 1928 by Ernest Meeker who had been sole proprietor for Slack Plumbing for many years. He was supported greatly by his wife, Elsie, who worked as bookkeeper and secretary. Ernest, unfortunately, passed away in 1937 at the young age of 45, leaving Elsie with three kids to raise. She continued the business, even cutting and threading pipe herself to help her employees. Ernest and Elsie’s son, Jack was soon able to step up to help his mother.
Jack married Audrey Lenharr in 1939, had two sons and went off to war. Upon returning, he took over the plumbing company full time, and their third son was born. The sons, Dan, David and Paul, all worked for their father when they came of age.
